Djarindjin Aboriginal Community

Djarindjin is located on the west coast of the northern Dampier Peninsula sub-region, north of Broome. It is within the traditional lands of the Bardi and Jawi peoples.

Djarindjin Community people were once part of the Lombadina Catholic Mission, during the 1980s the Federal Government instigated the homeland movement, and the old people that were living on the sand dunes and around the mission decided they wanted to have their own community.

Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation commenced in 1985, and the community of Djarindjin started.

Djarindjin is within the traditional lands of the Bardi and Jawi people and belongs to the Goollargoon country. This was recognised by the Government of Australia when it was determined that the Bardi and Jawi people hold native titles over the northern Dampier Peninsula.
